New at TrueVision - OPTOMAP

TrueVision has recently added Optomap to our comprehensive eye examination. It is the only technology that provides an ultra-widefield view of the retina. Optomap is a low-powered scanning laser that digitally scans the retina. The test is quick, painless and may not require dilating drops. Different wavelengths of laser light are used to capture the image. The image is filtered and various layers of the retina can be evaluated. The image is viewed on a computer and stored for future comparisons.

Why Optomap? It can lead to detection of common diseases, such as glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration and even cancer. The Optomap story: In 1990, 5 year old Leif Anderson went blind in one eye due to an undiagnosed retinal detachment. He was getting regular eye exams, but conventional tests available at the time made a thorough exam difficult. Distressed by the diagnostic methods available, Leif’s father, Douglas, designed the optomap system.

Optomap gives a 200 degree view of the retina vs. the usual 30 degrees in a more traditional exam. It offers patients additional assurance of early detection and management of eye problems for children and adults. It is one of the newest methods of preventative eye care and one in which TrueVision believes will become the standard for the future.
